#NACMAYP: The Importance of Being Yourself

A lot of times when we start a new job, we think we need to have this perfect persona or have to act a certain way. And while it's true that professionalism is a thing, it doesn't mean you have to be a robot when talking to bosses and co-workers. Showing people your true self is one of the most important things that we do. There's a little vulnerability in that, but that's a good thing and is a strong character trait that colleagues ultimately respect.

As far as working styles, we all have different ways that we're most comfortable working, what I would call "best self." For me, I'm at my best when I'm talking, being collaborative and outgoing. Perhaps loudly (apologies to my co-worker JC, who's had a 2-year headache from sharing an office wall with me). But everyone works differently, and one way is not necessarily better than another. What's important is to find out what your "best self" is, and then embrace that style. "Do You" is probably overused, but it is absolutely applicable here. Know what works best for you, and be true to it, every day.
