In case you haven’t yet heard, NACMA 2018 is heading to the Nation’s capital at the end of June. Committees have been hard at work crafting the best programming possible for attendees. I wanted to use todays Veterans feature to provide some insights on what members can expect at the Veterans Workshop session bright and early Thursday morning.

Who is the programming designed for? The Veterans Workshop is ideal for leaders with five or more years of full time experience in intercollegiate athletics. There is no tittle requirement or number of years required to attend, however members are encouraged to self-identify and either attend the Young Professionals Workshop or the Veterans Workshop. We have found that five years of service and above will likely receive the highest level of benefit from attending the veterans session. If you aren’t sure if you want to start your day at 8 am, check out these five reasons to register:

  1. Marketing is a Team Sport. Leaders from some of the top marketing teams across the country will take the stage to share some of their key accomplishments from the year. Their programs were selected as finalists for the 2018 Marketing Team of the Year Award and they will kick off the morning with insights into their measurable successes and take your questions.
  2. External Leaders Panel. Three external unit leaders will discuss the view from the top of their external teams. They have made the transition from worker bee to chief strategist over the group. They will share their insights on that transition as well as the pros and cons of their position within the structure of the athletics department.

  3. Roundtable Discussions. Bring out the fishbowl full of topics! This workshop is designed to be interactive and one of the key benefits of attending is the opportunity to connect with like minds and discuss. Seating will be at rounds across the room, not classroom to encourage conversation. Talk about your successes, frustrations, questions, ideas and more. Have a topic you want to be sure is included in the discussion? Leave your ideas in the comments and we will be sure they make the cut.

  4. Data is King. In this interactive session, we will introduce you to David Millay and Mike Millay of EngageMint. These guys are data experts and know exactly what collegiate marketing is all about. They help organizations discover their true fan and how to capitalize on that relationship.

  5. Leaders Worth Following. Kevin DeShazo of Culture Wins Championships will connect you with three of your peers that have participated in Kevin’s workshop designed to empower leaders to develop a championship culture in their own departments. Hear first-hand the lessons learned and what they have implemented that you can take to your campus.

Registration for the Veterans Workshop is a free and completely optional add-on to your 2018 NACMA Convention Registration. Please remember that seating is limited and we appreciate knowing who will be in attendance ahead of time. The early bird deadline ends on May 30 so only a few more weeks left to take advantage of the discounted convention rates. For a complete agenda of the event, click here. See you in DC!
