Over the holiday break, I read the book Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike. It’s a fascinating read on life, leadership, entrepreneurship and creativity. I was inspired by Phil Knight’s tireless quest for learning, his determined spirit and the way he empowered and challenged those on his early leadership team.
I recommend the book, even to those of you at non-Nike schools :)

Which leads me to a few takeaways from Knight’s book mashed up with links to other posts that I find inspiring (and bookmarked):
Knight is a tireless reader. He so reveres his library that in it you have to take off your shoes and bow.
Knight worked full time as an accountant while pursuing his passion and building his company at night and on the weekends.
Knight’s leadership team that powered the early growth of Nike was an eccentric group of individuals from different backgrounds and areas of expertise. There are multiple examples in the book about the various roles that he asked members of his team to take on for the sake of growing the company.
