Tips, Tricks and Traditions for Gamedays

We all have different ways to get through gamedays. From the coaches to the athletes to the staff on the sidelines. We all have our gameday traditions!  Here are a few of my favorite tips, tricks and traditions that get me through

1.       Comfort is key

Make sure to have on comfy shoes, team polos, your typical black or khaki pants… some may even have traditional gameday under garments.

2.       Quench your gameday thirst

We all have a drink of choice to help us get through the long days ie Coffee, Water, Diet Coke, Mountain Dew, and or Gatorade.

3.       Don’t forget the little things

Accessories to have on gameday; hair ties, bobby pins, deodorant, belts, chap stick, pens, and sharpies.

4.       Have deep pockets or carry a clipboard.

We always have a lot to carry on gameday from scripts to timing sheets and staff sheets. Make sure your pants have deep pockets or use a clipboard.

5.       Resting Happy Face

Gamedays are all about our fans, let’s ensure they have the best experience. Customer service is #1 always remember to smile.

6.       Keep your phones close and your chargers closer.

Always make sure you have your phone or laptop charged or invest in a portable charger.

7.       Headsets, ear pieces, radios, oh my!

Remember your Lysol Wipes… Keep it clean

8.       T-shirts

Know the art of t-shirt rolling. You never know when you will have to roll a t-shirt.

9.       Staff Debrief

End your gameday with a quick meeting on what went well and what needs to be worked on. Some staffs may end their gameday with a group hug.

10.   Last but not least

Have some fun! We are all lucky enough to work in sports, enjoy it!

Very funny yet true.  Thought I'd add two more...

#11 - Gameday rituals matter - I go to the same coffee place before every MBB and FB game to look over the script and finish final preparation

#12 - Don't jinx it - Never put a celebration or record breaking announcement in your script... Have it hidden in the press box or on your phones notepad to send as soon as it happens.
